At a virtual opening ceremony, the CBS International Business School welcomes over 600 new students at its locations in Germany and starts the winter semester 2020/21 with a smart concept consisting of classroom teaching and digital lectures.
With its slogan "Creating Tomorrow", the CBS International Business School formulates the shaping of the future as its mission. But rarely has the near future been so incalculable as it is at the moment. This makes foresight and agility all the more important for planning the new semester and its uncertain challenges. So the Business School is now entering the winter semester 2020/21 with a flexible model of classroom teaching and digital lectures.
In March of this year, the CBS was able to react quickly to corona-related developments on the basis of an early digitalisation strategy and successfully converted to online teaching formats within a week. For the winter semester, the CBS now combines the experience and advantages of both worlds.
On-site lectures in particular are intended to enable and strengthen the valuable exchange among students as well as the personal support by the lecturers. At the same time, international students who are currently not allowed to enter Germany can participate in all lectures online. Depending on how the situation develops in the coming weeks and months, the focus of the concept can be shifted quickly and smartly and adapted to changing conditions without gaps in lectures or a loss in teaching quality.
In addition to the current teaching model, the "Study Buddy Program" was created to make it easier for new students to settle in at the CBS and to actively support them in preparing for examinations.
Teaching of English-taught Bachelor and Master degree courses will commence at the CBS locations these days, followed by the German-taught Bachelor's degree courses in October. The joint opening ceremony already took place last week - with a mixture of digital program points and accompanying offers on campus.
Personal greetings were sent by Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Fröhlich (CBS President) and Prof. Dr. Uwe-Wilhelm Bloos (Vice President for Program Development and Quality Assurance in Teaching) via livestream to the screens of the new students. There were also online information and event offers for relatives and lecturers within the framework of the festivities.
Adhering to the required distance and hygiene rules, the first semester students later had the opportunity to get to know their lecturers and fellow students personally on the premises of the CBS.
In her opening speech, CBS president Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Fröhlich addressed the importance of education: "'Creating Tomorrow' is not just a slogan, it is a vision that reflects our responsibility to create a better world together with you. Together with you and our partner companies, we want to discuss in our lecture halls, student initiatives and career events and find solutions that will qualify you to take on leadership positions in the future. Education has never been more important than today.”
Prof. Dr. Uwe-Wilhelm Bloos encouraged the students: "Make use of the diverse possibilities that the CBS offers you for your personal and professional development. Learn to combine your acquired sound knowledge with sustainable 'soft skills' and learn to convince your fellow human beings of yourself and your cause. We are looking forward to helping you make the most of your potential.”
