What is an internship abroad?
An internship abroad is a temporary work placement at a company outside Germany, offering the perfect opportunity to gain practical experience while acquiring international exposure. If you aspire to work for a global company after graduation, an internship abroad will be a highly valuable addition to your CV.
What are the benefits of an internship abroad?
An international internship helps you improve your foreign language skills while strengthening your intercultural and social competencies. Moreover, it enables you to apply and further develop your professional knowledge in a real-world working environment. Gaining practical experience is increasingly important for employers, and international exposure can give you a competitive edge in both your further studies and future career.
How do I find an internship abroad?
When searching for an internship abroad, you can use conventional job portals as well as the job board available at our CBS Career Service. If you plan to complete your internship before or after your semester abroad, it’s also worth checking the job board of your host university. The CBS Career Service is happy to support you with your application documents.
Another option is to apply through an internship placement agency, which—usually for a fee—matches students with internship opportunities. These agencies allow you to filter opportunities by country, city, and industry. A simple online search for ‘international internships’ will provide you with a wide range of options, as demand continues to grow.
Alternatively, you can research international companies in advance and apply directly via their career pages. Many global companies have dedicated job portals where you can browse internship opportunities by location and field of work.
Keep in mind that securing an internship abroad requires significant planning time. The application process can take longer due to remote hiring procedures, and you may need to apply for a work visa, depending on the destination country. If you have any questions, the Career Service & International Office are here to support you.
Are there funding opportunities for internships abroad?
For internships within the EU, you can apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship directly through CBS.
If Europe isn’t far enough for you, you can also apply for a PROMOS scholarship before starting an internship outside the EU. More information on additional funding opportunities is available at the CBS Career Centre.
