Research at CBS

The task of every university is to impart academic knowledge and to conduct and disseminate academic research. The professors at CBS International Business School are involved in both national and international projects and publish their results in academic journals and books. Research activities CBS are organised into eight clusters: Business Psychology and Applied Psychology; Finance, Accounting and Economics; Marketing Sales and Retail; Strategic Management, Consulting and Entrepreneurship; Sustainability, Leadership and Supply Chain Management; Technology; Education and Methods and Diversity and Inclusion. Professors work in one or several research clusters, depending on their areas of research. Information on all the research activities of the professors is available on the academic staff page. Applied research with practical relevance at CBS is supported and promoted by external cooperation partners. Projects are conducted in cooperation with national and international partners. A group of research and student research assistants are supporting this work and thus gain practical knowledge of the field of academic research. The close relationship between research and teaching is of great importance to the professors and students; where relevant, this transfer of knowledge is integrated into the work of the cluster. The research activities of are supported by the Series of Publications and the Working Paper Series. The most important results can be downloaded as a PDF file.

Rethinking Expatriate Management - eine systematische Literaturanalyse zu Nachhaltigkeit im Global Mobility Management (Enno Ommen, Marina Schmitz und Prof. Dr. Anja Karlshaus)

Against the backdrop of VUCA and BANI environments, climate change and the pandemic, the research project by Enno Ommen, Marina Schmitz and Prof. Dr. Anja Karlshaus examined the topic of sustainable development in the field of global mobility (GM) and expatriate management (EM). In a comprehensive systematic literature search of originally 2,558 articles, 238 relevant articles published in leading management, IB and CSR journals over the last 20 years were searched for sustainable GM and EM facets and compared with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Although some social aspects such as SDG 3 "Good health and well-being" and SDG 5 "Gender equality" were somewhat overrepresented in the comparison, one of the key findings is that environmental aspects, in particular, have not yet been adequately addressed and therefore deserve more attention. As these environmental aspects, which have been underrepresented to date, are of great relevance for better coping with the major challenges of our time and making GM and EM more resilient and sustainable, theoretical and practical conclusions are drawn in conclusion.

Prof. Dr. Léa Wang: Voluntary retirement by founder-owners (in collaboration with IMD Family Business Center Switzerland, University of Zurich (Jung Park) and Transmission Lab France (Benoit Leleux))

Stable business run by a founder-owner are often disrupted at the moment of transferring its control. Preparing the necessary steps while the going is good is crucial for smooth transition. Our qualitative study investigates an inner psychological journey of elderly business owners in initiating their retirement plans. We collected evidences from small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) owners in France. We identified key factors that either advance or thwart the owners’ attachment to the organizations.
