Study General Management including Business Psychology specialization

In the management levels of international companies you will find specialists in finance, law or marketing. But who manages people? Who mediates and negotiates between and with people, regions, areas and customers? People who have studied business administration and also have psychological expertise. Both areas are part of the German-language General Management study programme at Cologne Business School, if you choose the integrated specialization Business Psychology.

Leadership-relevant psychology

In-depth knowledge of business psychology is highly sought after in many areas of companies. However, this master’s degree in business administration includes both typical management courses as well as leadership-relevant psychological content. You will gain insights into topics like leadership of teams, diversity management, talent management and recruiting – and important management techniques such as negotiating or moderating meetings and processes.

Recent research, fresh ideas

State of the art business psychology research and current trends in applied business psychology are essential parts of the curriculum. This gives you a head start over all those who only get to know basic theories. In the course “Psychologische Handlungskompetenz” (Psychological Authority) you will learn how to use appropriate tools when dealing with people and situations. And in the section “Führungspsychologie” (Leadership Psychology) you will examine the effects behaviour has on teams, customers and stakeholders. This enables you to successfully fill a management position from the very beginning.

Giving an interesting and international direction to the Master’s degree in Business Administration

General Management is the German-language business management master’s degree course at the Cologne Business School, which prepares students for management careers in international companies. The study program always includes an elective specialization such as Business Psychology, which starts in the first semester. The specialisation makes up about a quarter of the course content – classical business administration content is therefore always the main focus. You can be sure that you can acquire outstanding business knowledge: foreign trade theories, economics, strategic management, corporate accounting, marketing, global sourcing and much more.

Soft skills, firmly scheduled

Psychology is interaction-based. It is important that you are able to apply your acquired knowledge widely – and deepen it through practice. That’s why you can improve your foreign language skills, for example in Spanish. Keep in mind that this study program is German-language only. In the “Creative thinking and innovation” block you will find out how to drive processes forward. And in the “Leadership Behavior” course you will learn for instance which types of leadership styles are useful. All this prepares you for your possible future role as a manager. Your mandatory internship of at least eight weeks in Germany or abroad gives you the opportunity to put what you have learned into practice.

Master Thesis: many possibilities

You decide how and where you want to write your Master’s thesis in the fourth semester. With a focus on research from Cologne – or at one of our partner universities around the world? At a regional or international company where you research and work at the same time? Your interests set the direction. We support you.

Taking the lead after graduation

Which career opportunities does a German-language business administration master’s degree with an international orientation and specialization in business psychology open up for you? Think of positions in the middle and upper management of German companies. Industry-independent, from medium-sized businesses to top groups. These could be, for example, technology-oriented companies looking for more “human touch” in management levels, or service companies whose most important resource is a powerful, motivated team.

Are you interested in pure business psychology?

Take a look at the CBS Master’s degree programme in Business Psychology, also in German language. It contains all the subject-specific content of this specialization, plus areas like market research, advertising psychology, value-oriented management, coaching, organisational psychology and many more.
