Whether for a caffeine kick in between meals or a long lunch break - sooner or later, many of the paths taken by our Cologne students and staff will lead to the cafeteria run by Schloesser Catering. However, the special circumstances of our current times have prompted the team around cafeteria manager Markus Schlösser to temporarily stop the regular cafeteria operations and to break new ground instead: Since the beginning of the week, our cafeteria team has been offering vouchers through the local initiative "Veedelsretter" (Neighbourhood rescuers). We talked to Markus about current challenges and the value of true solidarity.
Markus Schlösser: Through my immediate surroundings! Our president, Prof. Dr. Fröhlich, was contacted by the initiative and asked to share the appeal internally. She promptly did so! At the beginning of April, a business colleague also pointed out the online platform to me. I was incredibly pleased that so many people were thinking of my team and me, who were of course not prepared for such a crisis.
Markus Schlösser: We sell vouchers worth 10, 15, 20 and 30 euros on Veedelsretter, which can be redeemed when our cafeteria reopens. I am confident that we will be able to offer meals and snacks on our campuses again in the coming months, provided that the necessary safety precautions are observed. Our vouchers do not have to be redeemed all at once. With an average price of 4 euros per lunch, they will last you a long time!
Markus Schlösser: It is interest oriented. I try to implement the wishes of our students and bring in my own interpretation. This creates a mixture of international cuisine with the influences of my many years of experience as a cook. I always try to open myself to new things and to include unusual recipes in our menu. Regional products thus create a modern crossover cuisine.
Markus Schlösser: We want to continue to improve our quality and service and delight our customers with new recipes for the "Welcome back".
