Student Life
Compared to the last couple of years, the new CBS students were finally welcomed in person at a ceremony across all campuses last week.
"I am a little overwhelmed to be able to stand in front of you again, after such a long time, to welcome you all personally here at CBS International Business School! The semester opening is always something special for us; and today, for the first time in the Gürzenich, one of the most important buildings in Cologne, where you will spend many more fun hours, especially when carnival is allowed to regularly take place again!" was the welcome from the President of the CBS, Prof. Dr. habil. Lisa Fröhlich at the semester opening ceremony to the freshmen from Cologne and the new students from the Berlin/Potsdam campus who were connected live.

Almost 80 freshmen and their accompanying persons were also welcomed by more than 30 employees from the private university at the Mainz cultural centre KUZ. Here, too, the program consisted of an eclectic mix of motivating words from faculty members and representatives from politics, business, personal experiences from those who have already successfully completed their studies at the CBS and music. As an alumna of the B.A. program in International Business, Andrea Utz, Manager in Deals & Restructuring at PwC, congratulated the freshman on their new stage in life and gave insights into her time at CBS, her semester abroad in Australia, and the lifelong friendships she developed at CBS.
… which Prof. Dr. Alexander Westenbaum, academic director at CBS in Mainz, was responsible for again this year was awarding the ‘Best Performer’ and ‘Social Engagement’ scholarships as well as the ‘TSC Sports Scholarship’ in Mainz. These scholarships are traditionally awarded at the start of the semester; funding and financial support for high-performing students is part of the university’s DNA at CBS.
Ambition and athletic performance were demonstrated most notably by Leon Zill, a future student in the master’s program Sports Management & Applied Sports Psychology in Mainz. Leon was presented with the sports scholarship by the TSC board member Hans Beth. Since 2018, TSC Mainz has been one of the cooperation partners with CBS at the Mainz campus. All students have access to the tennis courts, free of charge, at certain times.

Mayors Michael Ebling (Mainz) and Andreas Wolter (Cologne) invited students to unlock their potential to help actively shape the future at both campuses. As part of the studies at CBS, there are various opportunities to think outside the box. Ebling and Wolter echoed a similar message about relying on the new generation of sustainable and digital leaders for the challenging times ahead. The support of the city, partners, and the entire university is assured without further ado.
After the integration of the Department of Management & Technology of the European University of Applied Sciences (EUFH) into the CBS International Business School at the beginning of the year, the start of the winter semester also marked a very special premiere. At the campus Neuss, the first full-time bachelor's students were welcomed into the program - the small group of students opted for the bachelor's degree program in Business Administration and Management and the opportunity to specialize in specific majors during their studies.
In Brühl, two cohorts of the part-time master's programs, General Management and Strategic Management & Consulting, were welcomed during an Intro Day. This puts them one month ahead of the dual students in both the bachelor's and master's programs. For these groups, the winter semester starts at the beginning of October and, for the first time this year, at the campus in Mainz, in addition to the former EUFH campuses in Solingen, Aachen, Brühl and Neuss. Until then, we are continuing to prepare for another excellent semester start at CBS!
Even though we are able to start the semester in-person to everyone’s delight, CBS is prepared to take any necessary measures in the fall due to the ongoing pandemic, guaranteeing a seamless course of study with stability in the quality of teaching. In the meantime, parallel to the in-person lectures, classes are streaming live or are recorded.
