Academic Requirements
To enrol in an MBA programme at CBS University of Applied Sciences, you must hold a first academic degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) from a recognised German or international university, university of applied sciences, or cooperative education institution with a minimum final grade of “good”.
If your Bachelor’s degree grade does not meet this requirement, you may need to complete a separate admissions process. Your first degree must comprise at least 180 ECTS credits. Additionally, you need at least one year of professional experience.
Studying Without a Bachelor’s Degree
In certain cases, it is possible to pursue an MBA without a traditional Bachelor’s degree. Applicants with extensive professional experience in a relevant field may qualify for admission under specific conditions. Additionally, higher qualifications such as a Diploma or State Examination may serve as an alternative entry requirement.

Language Requirements for English-Taught MBA Programmes
For English-taught MBA programmes, proof of sufficient English proficiency is required. This can be demonstrated through recognised language certificates, such as:
• TOEFL: Minimum score of 83
• IELTS: Minimum overall score of 6.5
• Cambridge Certificate: Minimum B2 or C1 level, depending on the programme

Your Checklist for an MBA Application
To successfully enrol in an MBA programme at CBS University of Applied Sciences, you must submit the following documents:
- Officially certified copy of your Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
A Bachelor’s degree is usually required for admission to an MBA. Depending on the programme, alternative qualifications such as a Diploma or recognised professional experience may be considered. If your degree was obtained abroad, an official recognition may be necessary.
- CV in tabular format
Including academic qualifications, relevant work experience, leadership positions, and additional qualifications.
- Valid visa (for international applicants only)
If you require a visa, the application deadline is: Winter semester: 30 May
- Proof of relevant work experience (if required)
Some MBA programmes require a minimum number of years of professional experience. Specific requirements depend on the chosen programme.
- Proof of health insurance
Registration with a health insurance provider is mandatory for your enrolment. If you have private health insurance, you must provide an exemption from statutory health insurance.
- Copy of an official photo ID
For data protection reasons, please black out sensitive information such as the document number.
- Proof of language proficiency (if required)
This is necessary for international students or certain study programmes. Language certificates must be submitted in English and/or German, depending on the programme requirements.
- Academic transcripts from previous studies (Academic Transcript of Records)
- Motivation letter
Your motivation letter should answer the following question: "Where do you see yourself in your career with a CBS degree?" (1–2 pages, A4 format)
- Fast Track MBA: Additional documents for shortened study duration (if applicable)
If you are applying for a Fast Track MBA, additional documents proving relevant work experience or further training may be required.
