Latin Night: Preparing for the semester abroad

The Latin Night at the Cologne Business School networked students with guest students from the Spanish and Latin American CBS partner universities. During the semester abroad, the Cologne Business School cooperates with eighteen partner universities in Spanish-speaking countries and two partner universities in Brazil. At the Latin Night, the students personally informed themselves about the courses on offer at the international universities, tasted Latin American specialities and had the opportunity to learn the southern Spanish dance La Sevillana.

CBS partner universities: From the City of Mountains to the City of Kings

Guest student Ximena Ancira Facio has come to Cologne for her semester abroad. She is studying marketing in her home country Mexico. The Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey is located in the state capital of Nuevo Léon and is nicknamed la Ciudad de las Montañas because it is surrounded by mountains. Studying at the private university is characterised by practical teaching: "The private university attaches great importance to a high degree of practical relevance in the courses of study. Many of the theories from the lectures are then applied practically in projects. In addition, the university cooperates with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever and KPMG in the form of business projects in which guest students can also participate.

From this semester, Daniel Merlin de Andrade has also been studying for a Master of Business Administration at the Cologne Business School. The Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná located in his home town Curitiba, is known for its investment into research, with its own innovation centre focusing on agricultural industry and educational technology. Daniel Merlin de Andrade knows why Curitiba scores well with foreign students: "Curitiba is considered one of the safest big cities in Brazil. It is well known for its gastronomy, mostly the local traditional Churrascarias (Steakhouses), but also for European and Asian restaurants, brought by immigrants in the last century, including an Italian district and German restaurants. I recommend the Iguazú waterfalls in the border triangle of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay as a destination for excursions. They are listed for historical preservation, are one of the natural world wonders and are an UNESCO World Heritage Site".

Fidel Gonzalo Erazo Flores has been studying General Management at the Cologne Business School for two months. In his hometown Lima or la Cuidad de los Reyes, as Spanish conquerors called it, he is enrolled at the private university Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, which captivates with its international flair: "The USIL comprises three campuses in Lima. Our university is attended by many international students who can choose between seminars in English or Spanish. Guest students should definitely learn one of our local dances such as danza afro-peruano, huayno or danza selvatica. In the clubs of Miraflores you can do without them."Photos: Silke Friedrich
