Would you like to apply your business knowledge directly in practice and build up a career network early on? Get to know the practice-oriented study programmes at CBS!
A business degree introduces you to the world of management (Bachelor's degree) or makes you an expert in your field (Master's degree, MBA). In addition to theoretical approaches, models, and methodological knowledge, one thing is particularly important to all lecturers at CBS: Linking theory and practice. For this reason, all CBS study programmes have a practical focus: A compulsory internship provides the necessary insights into everyday working life and can set the course for your career entry. In Business Projects and Business Simulation Games, you learn to apply methods to concrete company issues and strengthen your analytical skills.
Our lecturers themselves come from the business world and bring their expertise and experience directly into the classroom. Guest lecturers and excursions provide variety in everyday teaching and allow you to immerse yourself directly in the business & management. You can also write your Bachelor's and Master's thesis with a company partner and thus gain valuable practical experience for your job entry. The lecturers' contacts in the business world can play a decisive role for you in business projects, case studies or the thesis. The best proof of the practice-oriented degree programme comes from the HR departments of well-known companies: According to a survey conducted by WirtschaftsWoche among HR managers, CBS graduates are among the best trained career starters on the German job market.
There is a separate department at CBS for the successful dovetailing of theory and practice - the Career Service. This service institution brings you together with potential employers. Through events such as Career Days, expert lectures, alumni talks, or job application training, you have the opportunity to meet managers from the first semester onwards and to find out in the various event formats where your business degree can take you. The digital Career Center contains job advertisements and events from over 800 CBS corporate partners. You can create your own profile, apply via Career Center, and register for events. You will also receive support from our career advisors for the selection and application of your compulsory internship.
You will meet our alumni at many events. The former CBS graduates
can give you valuable tips for your career planning and you can start your dream job well prepared. Through the alumni association CBS Family & Friends e.V., they are still networked with the CBS family after graduation. It is exciting to see the management positions they are now working in.
Did you know that many former CBS students are entrepreneurs themselves today? The foundation for these start-ups was laid at the CBS, where the founders got to know each other. Through the cooperation of CBS with the Hochschulgründernetz Cologne (hgnc) and the student initiative Founders Factory, you can already network with like-minded entrepreneurs during your studies.
CBS also offers a variety of further education options for working professionals. In the Bachelor's programme at the Mainz campus, you have the opportunity to complete an IHK-certified training alongside your studies or to pursue your profession full-time. Those interested in a Master's degree can become an expert in their field of work in a weekend course and gain further qualifications in a postgraduate course. Here you can find an overview of the part-time study programme at our campuses. Even during full-time studies, students have the chance to gain further practical experience through student jobs. CBS Career Center offers tips and job offers.
A degree should help you develop personally and network with other people. Learn now what it means to become part of the CBS family.
At CBS, you learn in small groups of no more than 35 students per course. This means you can ask questions at any time and benefit from the fact that the teachers know you personally. This means you always have a direct contact person for homework or your final thesis. The group work and presentations during your studies promote teamwork and strengthen your cohesion with fellow students. You learn to organise your daily study routine and your study workload and receive help from the CBS service staff or lecturers at any time if you have questions. Through the introductory week and student events, friendships are quickly formed that are useful not only in your studies, but also in your later working life.
There are many student initiatives at CBS in which you can actively participate and help shape a fun campus life. Would you like to represent your fellow students? Become part of the Students' Parliament. Are you interested in social engagement, financial issues, or sustainability? Here you can find more information about the initiatives.
Whether it's Christmas, Carnival, or Halloween - there's always something to celebrate. Thanks to the student e-mail distribution list and our social media channels, you'll always be up to date and quickly get to know your study city. Around the campuses, there are cafés, the campus garden, and the beautiful Rhine meadows. Find out more about the CBS university locations here.
Our modern university campuses are located in the city centre and are easy to reach by car or public transport. With the student ticket, you are mobile and can decide for yourself whether you want to study on campus or at home. The digital equipment at the locations includes smartboards in the lecture rooms as well as broadband internet for the entire campus. In the library or the CBS Lounge, you can withdraw to study or prepare the next presentation with fellow students. Print, copy, scan - you can do all this with your student ID card, which functions as an interactive card for the service devices. In addition to books, numerous databases are available to you for research. Via the digital administration system of the CBS, you can view your timetable and your exams, manage documents, and have your grade report generated.
Especially at the beginning of your studies, you probably have many questions: How do I find the book I'm looking for in the library? What do I have to do if I am sick during an exam? The CBS service teams will answer all this and more during the introductory week. But we also have an open-door policy, so that you can ask questions in the corresponding department office at any time. The colleagues in the Examination Office, Scheduling, Students Office, IT, or the library will be happy to help you if things don't go as planned. The International Office and the Career Service take care of your questions about your semester abroad and career planning. This means you are well taken care of and can concentrate perfectly on your studies.
