In addition, there are registration fees and semester fees, which have to be paid at the time of enrolment. BAföG is short for Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz, or Federal Training Assistance Act, which enables young students to pursue the study programme that fits them the most, and provides state funding giving many young students the opportunity to take up education, that they could not be able to finance otherwise.
Being a state-recognized university, CBS students are entitled to apply for a BAföG grant. BAföG can be applied for at the Federal Administrative Office via the Cologne Student Union (Kölner Studierendenwerk). Regardless of which campus you apply for, the Studierendenwerk in Cologne is the responsible party for all our students as our headquarters is based in Cologne. Whether you receive such a subsidy will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The decision is based on your income and assets as well as those of your family. Many prospective students are initially deterred by a loan. But it’s a great way to finance your studies if you choose the right student loan that matches your career goals. Many banks offer special loan programmes that provide financial support to students or trainees. The interest rates are comparatively low and offer a lot of flexibility. The best way to find out about your funding opportunities is to contact your local bank or an independent credit institution.

Study first, pay later – sounds like a great way to finance your studies? The Reverse Intergenerational Contract (UGV) offers you that.
This innovative model of study financing ensures that you do not have to pay any or only a part of the tuition fees at the CBS during your studies as our cooperation partner Brain Capital takes over all or part of them. After graduation, you pay back a percentage of your salary to the CBS education fund when you have reached a certain minimum income. The amount of the repayments depends on your income and supports the following generations of CBS students.

We believe in the potential of young people and want to support them in shaping their future! For this reason, CBS awards up to four scholarships per campus each semester.
CBS International Business School grants scholarships to young people who have gotten outstanding results during their high school or their first degree. The aim is to open the way to CBS above all to those who otherwise wouldn’t afford studying at a private university. If the individual requirements are met, the applicants who have successfully completed the application receive a scholarship with a discount of up to 50 percent on the tuition fees.
Bachelor, Master, and MBA students who have successfully passed the selection process at the CBS and are about to start their first semester. The programme is open to both national and international students. Regardless of full-time or part-time.
We particularly support students with outstanding records. Important for the Best Performer scholarship is your high school GPA (For Bachelor prospective students) or Bachelor’s GPA (For Master perspective students). A letter of recommendation can also underline your high performance and make your application particularly stand out.
For a Social Engagement Scholarship, you must prove your social commitment. This may involve voluntary work in a sports club, in refugee aid or in other non-profit organisations. You can convince the selection committee with your charitable talent in the artistic, sporting or social field.
The deadline for the summer semester (Only in Campus Cologne) is the 13th of November 2020. The deadline for the winter semester 2021 (all campuses) is the 12th of June 2021. Please note that we only accept applicants who have successfully completed the admission process.

All scholarship holders are granted a 25 percent exemption from the complete tuition fees for their study programme at CBS. The scholarship starts with the first semester and is valid as long as you are enrolled at CBS in the regular study period.
With the globalisation of jobs, companies are looking for people who understand global markets and lead teams in multicultural environments. A semester abroad can be a great opportunity for students to get the skills necessary to work in an international environment.
However, the big question remains, how do I finance my semester abroad? Here are some possible ways to do that:
Federal Education Assistance (BAföG) for can be applied for for the purpose of a semester abroad / internships abroad and it usually attainable after a year of commencing your studies.
A BAfög for a semester abroad could be granted even to students who do not get BAföG domestically in Germany. Students who are not eligible to get a domestic BAföG in Germany due to their parents’ income may be eligible for for a semester abroad funding. Check eligibility for your semester abroad. The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarship in Germany is one of the worlds’ biggest financing institutions for international students. Since its foundation, it has helped and financed around 2 million students in Germany and abroad.

ERASMUS is a European exchange programme that helps students to study a semester abroad in many of their partner countries. A semester abroad would help to gain skills that are valued in today’s business environment.
The amount of the scholarship may vary depending on the chosen destination country, and the number of applications received.

Working part time during your studies in Germany, is a great way to earn some experience and to cover your living expenses. Germany offers various opportunities when it comes to finding a part time student job.
According to the law, international students (non-EU students) can work up to 120 full days or 240 half days in a year.
However, one should bear in mind the impact of such earnings on other financial sources of income. If the monthly income is above 450 €, student loans like BAföG will be reduced.

To get your German visa student visa, you need to provide the German embassy with a proof of your financial resources. If your parents are able to finance your studies, all you have to do is provide the German embassy with a bank statement to show the means that you will use to cover your living costs and finance your studies in Germany.
