University2Business 2017 – Over 35 companies visit CBS

On March 15-16, the networking and recruiting event, University2Business (U2B) took place on the Cologne Business School campus under the motto, “War for Talents”. Representatives from more than 35 well-known companies were present during the two-day event and gave lectures and workshops on various topics. In addition, networking events provided students the opportunity to speak personally with company representatives, thus establishing valuable contacts in the business world. Since 2011, this event has been annually organized by CBS students in cooperation with Career Service.

Thanks to U2B, participating students had the opportunity to visit many helpful and informative events. For example, representatives from TUI and UPS held lectures, while the REWE Group offered insights into the processes and individual departments of their company. ThyssenKrupp’s lecture on “The importance of sustainability for a global industrial company” was also met with great interest. What’s more, several panel discussions took place; Prof. Dr. Karlshaus, Professor of Business Operations and Human Resource Management at CBS, conducted a panel discussion on part-time management, while elsewhere, the subject of CSR and employer branding were discussed by a number of representatives from well-known corporations together with Gregor Berghausen, Head of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce.

How to compose the perfect cover letter? How to behave in payment negotiations, and how to go about finding one’s dream job? Students received answers to these questions during presentations given by, for example, the Horbach Consulting Group and the personnel consultancy, Leverage HR. Then, in a case study competition pitch, students were offered the opportunity to prove their skills in teams. This year’s premium partner, WunderCompany, presented the four student teams – including two international teams from partner universities in Denmark and the Netherlands, as well as a team from the European Management School in Mainz – with the capital and labor requirements for opening up new international markets for the company. After exciting and high-class pitches, each examining different ways of tapping into new markets, it was the CBS team who came out on top and secured the win.

At the end of the second day the U2B event came to a close in a festive get-together. With drinks and delicious food, all participants had the opportunity to continue networking and raised their glasses to two successful days of U2B.
