Cologne Business School welcomes 120 General Management and Business Psychology Bachelor degree majors

Starting today and prior to study commencement on 12 October (before initial lectures and seminars of the Winter Semester), incoming freshmen of the Bachelor programs, General Management and Business Psychology will be led through an introductory week in order to familiarize them with the university and show them where to acquire the help and information for which needs.

Today, a ceremony in the Cologne Chamber of Commerce (IHK) Börsensaal offered a worthy setting to welcome incoming freshmen along with their families and friends.IHK’s Managing Director, Gregor Berghausen opened the event, welcomed guests to Cologne as a location for commerce and stressed the long-standing, successful collaboration between his company and the Cologne Business School.

In her opening speech, CBS President Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Fröhlich also addressed the importance of modern management education, alluding to the management failure of an automotive company in recent weeks.

Prof. Dr. Irene López, head of the Business Psychology degree program, delivered a few words to the guests from a faculty perspective as well as Prof. Dr. Torsten Weber, dean of the faculty for General Management.

Business and administration graduate, Dieter Flosbach, CEO of Werner Flosbach GmbH & Co KG, picked up on this idea and stressed the importance of well-trained junior staff in the workplace. He reported from his experience and gave the new students important information as to which qualifications will help them score in interviews.

Parallel to successfully completing his Master’s degree in General Management at the Cologne Business School in August, Christian Laaff was also driven to start up his own company. He reported on his experiences while studying and praised the comprehensive approach of management studies at CBS.

Subsequently, Frederic Ackermann, a freshmen himself majoring in Business Psychology, spoke on his career so far and on the reasons that led him to study at CBS. Traditionally, it is the speeches from incoming students that are met with particular excitement. And for many fellow students in the auditorium, this year was certainly no exception.

Finally, Managing Director and Head of the University Administration, Prof. Dr. Florian Hummel welcomed and invited those present to a reception afterwards in the foyer of the IHK Börsensaal.

A warm thanks also goes out to the two presenters, Vivian Gerwig and Christoph Mück, both third-semester Business Psychology majors.

Following this coming Wednesday inside the Rhein-Energie Stadium will be an all-day freshmen integration event organized by upper-classmen with a big barbecue celebration in conclusion.
