Intensive Preparation and Attention to Detail which lead to success

At 19th and 20th of March, the networking event University2Business took place for the fifth time at the campus of Cologne Business School under the motto BRANDING CHALLENGE â?? THE POWER OF THE BRAND.

The two-day event is organized every year since 2011 by students who invite representatives of companies operating in different industries to visit the campus. During the event, the companies offer workshops and presentations to the students which fit to the yearly changing motto to allow a glimpse into their strategies and vice versa also profit from the input generated by the students themselves.

The occasion was crowned by an in-house company trade fair, a case study which was supervised by the premium partner Interbrand and many more activities. Another exceptional opportunity was an assessment center training offered by the consulting company Oscar, which was used to simulate a job interview.

After a welcoming and opening ceremony on Thursday, 19th of March, which was held by the head of CBS Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Fröhlich among others, the company representatives, the students of CBS and the guest students of some partner universities were happy to start experiencing the diversity of the program.

The case study was provided by the U2B premium partner Interbrand. Mrs. Ildiko Kovacs, Strategy Director Germany, introduced the task, which was to be dealt with during the following 48 hours, to the participants. This years teams of the Business Academy Aarhus (Denmark), the Fontys University Eindhoven and the Hogeschool Utrecht (both Netherlands) as well as the FH St. Pölten (Austria) took part in the case study besides a student team from Cologne Business School.

The results of the case study were finally presented on Friday evening. The jury announced the team from Aarhus as winners, thereby beating the CBS and Fontys University competitor teams after a difficult decision-making process.
The students Jacqueline Benjamin, Frederike Buhl, Natalie Grubic and Marie Schon undertook the guidance of the organisation this year and were visibly content with the outcome of the event: I will simply enjoy this evening. Everything worked out as expected and I am happy having engaged myself for University2Business.

Prof. Dr. Irene López, Dean of Business Psychology, and Marina Brandt, Head of the Career Services Office at CBS, who have also highly supported the student initiative, also gave a positive feedback: It is a totally different process of thinking when students plan a project during several months compared to the corporal everyday practice. They evaluate less biased and take more time to discuss the details. Usually this results in very creative solution attempts.
Just as creative were the programmeand the buffet at the final gala event on campus. More than 150 participants of the two days assembled to enjoy live music and finger food, congratulate the winners of the case study and wind down the evening festively.
