Round three for event series on „Sustainability Communication –How companies can generate added value through dialogue with their customers, employees and suppliers“

On September 14th, the third workshop of the event series, “Sustainability and Economic Success – Business Perspectives” took place on the floor of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce (CCI). Once again, this was carried out in cooperation with the CCI, CBS and the Dr. Juergen Meyer Foundation.

As of 2017, the European Commission has obliged all companies with over 500 employees to report non-financial information and relevant diversity thereof. Along with economic figures, these companies must also publish information on strategies, risks and outcomes related to environmental issues as well as social and employee-related aspects.

In this respect, the theme of the workshop is highly topical. Moderating the first panel was former CBS Professor Dr. habil. Matthias Fifka. Along with company representatives from Soennecken and DHL, CBS Professor Dr. Torsten Weber also participated in the panel discussion as an expert on “Sustainable Communication”.

All 80 participants gained an impression of the challenges companies are faced with in terms of sustainability communication. While large companies are pioneers in matters of sustainability reporting, the focal point of the discussion were the challenges and problems facing the local middle class. Points particularly addressed were the concrete implementation, purpose and lack of reporting expertise with regards to sustainability. The participants all agreed that the communication of sustainability issues can positively boost a brand and a company and represents a long-term competitive advantage, which significantly contributes to a company’s success. Therefore, Professor Dr. Weber’s appeal was: courage to communicate with substance and authenticity!

Afterwards, three workshops were held, where experts and specialists offered advice from practical experience in their own companies as to how to communicate sustainability issues.

Presentation: Riccardo Wagner, Owner Better Relations, Brühl

The event series will continue with the theme, “Sustainable Business Models Generate Profits”. This will be centered around how companies continue to make themselves and their employees pioneers in matters of sustainability. The free event will take place on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 4:30 pm on the trade floor (Börsensaal).

The CBS and Cologne Chamber of Commerce CSR cooperation events are coordinated and hosted by CBS Professor Dr. René Schmidpeter, Dr. Juergen Meyer Endowed Chair for International Business Ethics and CSR.
