Trip to Berlin 2015

All News, Inside CBS   -  29. October 2015

On Friday the 23th of October at 6:45 am, sleepy faces began to arrive to the meeting point at the entrance of the CBS. Despite having so many nationalities, the bus departed almost on time and the trip to Berlin began.

With a total of 40 students we arrived at Berlin in the Come Backpackers Hostel in the afternoon. After clearing the first questions such as “what is the Wifi password?” and “where can I eat something?” students were divided into three different rooms and had some time to accommodate. During the afternoon the students had free time to look around the neighborhood and get some first impressions of the city. At night we all gathered in the hostel and went for some drinks together.

On Saturday morning, a three hour long guided tour was booked for the students. It was a hop-on hop-off bus tour with a Berlin guide. Luckily, the weather was beautiful and we were able to see a sunny Berlin. The guide took us through the city while explaining all of the main facts and information. We had three stops along the way.

The first one was at the East side gallery. Students looked at the famous paintings of hundreds of artists on the wall.

The second stop was at the famous hotspot: the Brandenburger Tor. At this point, we managed to take a beautiful group picture at one of Berlin´s main attractions.

From the gate, we walked through the Tiergarten until we reached the Bundestag. Our guide provided the students all the information about the locations.

The third and last stop was at the Gendarmenmarkt. In this location, the tour was concluded and all students had some free time to take a closer look into the city and its hotspots.

Most of the students decided to visit the Memorial and the Jewish Museum, while others went to Alexanderplatz and the Museum Island. For lunch, most students opted for a classical currywurst mit pommes or a kebap.

Around 6:30 pm most of the students returned to the hostel to change and get ready for the night. A table for 40 people was booked at the famous Brauhaus “Hofbräu Berlin”. The group enjoyed of a typical German dinner ordering dishes like schnitzel, Schweinshaxe, and Sauerbraten, along with a cold beer. There was a live music band, so the students had fun dancing the German traditional dances.

At 10pm our last point of the schedule took place: the pub crawl. A guide picked us up from the Brauhaus and all students joined in the bar hopping. It was the perfect end to a beautiful trip. The students enjoyed Berlin at night and had the chance to party all together in the German capital.

On Sunday morning, all bags were packed and the rooms were organized. They had the chance to get a Sunday breakfast and be ready to return. At 12 noon the bus departed punctually to drive back to Cologne. We arrived at the university at 8pm and all students gave a positive feedback regarding the trip.
