For the start of the winter semester 2018, CBS students of Tourism Management were invited by the Department of Tourism Management to a guided tour of Cologne. Before the tour, the 18 students, including many guest students, visited with Desmond Wee, Dean of International Tourism Management, and Hanno Martens, Lecturer for Tourism Management, the headquarters ntsof KölnTourismus. The authorized signatory Stephanie Kleine-Klausing personally welcomed the students and briefly introduced them to the services and tasks of destination marketing. At the end she invited them to the roof terrace, from where they had a fantastic view of the cathedral.
Leandra Lemmer, a student of the Master’s programme “International Tourism Management”, was enthusiastic about the look behind the scenes at KölnTourismus: “I now have a better idea of the tasks of destination marketing and am surprised at how varied the work there is. Destination marketing is very dynamic and agile”. Together with the city guide Dr Stefan Rath, the students visited the cathedral, strolled through the narrow alleys of the old town and discovered the history of the Kölnisch Wasser in the Dufthaus 4711.
At the end of the day, Desmond Wee and Hanno Martens invited all ITM students and guest students to the Tourism Mixer in Cologne’s Südstadt. The network meeting of the tourism marketing courses of studies takes place twice in the term and serves the exchange between the studying of all classes, guest students and Alumnis. For Laura Massen, student of the Master’s programme “International Tourism Management”, it was the first Tourism Mixer: “I socialized with master students in the 3. term. Some of them had taken part in the South Korea trip last year. That was really exciting. I then inquired about the next trip and signed up for the CBS Study Trip to Oman.”
