The project is a cooperation between the trade show organizer, ITB Berlin; the tourist business consultancy, COMPASS GmbH, Cologne and the Cologne Business School under the management of Professor Dr. Patrick Merten, Dean of Tourism Research.
Together, Jan-Peter Jansen, Head of Marketing at CBS and Martina Leicher, Director of COMPASS, coordinate the entire awards event. “Overall, there are almost 50 of us. In addition to students and faculty members and COMPASS consultants, university staff also man booth No. 202 in Hall 11 for the entirety of the trade fair, answering press inquiries, speaking with potential cooperation partners and handling all the logistics. Overall, the project lasts about six months.”
Professor Merten sees the project as a two-fold opportunity for students, “The evaluation of the exhibition stands is in itself a challenge. In addition, each student has a great opportunity to put his or her people skills to work by building their professional network and securing an internship or often even a job.”
This year alone the ITB expects a turnout of 115,000 visitors and for years has been the largest exhibition for tourism worldwide. The Cologne Business School and its project partners look forward to an exciting time at the trade exhibition.
