With a joint ceremony, Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Fröhlich, President of the CBS International Business School, Prof. Dr. Markus Raueiser, Dean of the Department of International Business, as well as Prof. Dr. Anja Karlshaus, Dean of the Department of General Management, welcomed around 60 freshmen for the summer semester 2020 for the first time. Starting this week, the majority of freshmen will be taking up a bachelor’s or master’s degree course in "International Business". The traditional semester opening ceremony with speeches by internal and external speakers put the students in the mood for studying at the Cologne campus of the CBS International Business School and in the student city of Cologne.

In her opening speech, CBS President Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Fröhlich referred to the great possibilities for individual designing of the programmes: "With your decision to study at CBS, you have taken an important first step into your new professional future and you will find many possibilities and opportunities at CBS to develop both your professional and personal interests. It is entirely up to you to individually shape your study time at CBS through our varied specialisations, student initiatives and extra-curricular activities. As Dean of the Department of General Management, Prof. Dr. Anja Karlshaus also addressed a personal greeting to the guests: "But looking ahead also means taking responsibility. You will also have the opportunity and encouragement to do so during your studies. Because at the CBS International Business School, we attach great importance to responsible corporate governance and sustainable management. We want to develop our students into competent decision-makers who take their social role seriously and find solutions for the economic problems of our time".

The official welcome speeches were followed by a musical performance by CBS graduate Stefanie Nowikow. Finally, Hannah Klose, also a CBS graduate, managing director of ChangeworX and founder of STAGELOVERS, wished the freshmen much success for the coming semesters. Finally, the get-together offered the opportunity to get to know lecturers and fellow students personally.Photos: Constantin Ehrchen/CBS International Business School
