Alumni meet Campus: “Cava Tasting” and founding stories

All Categories, Inside CBS   -  5. April 2019

Four newly founded companies with a total of five founders formed the panel at the “Cava Tasting”, a network meeting of the event series “Alumni meet Campus”. At the invitation of Dennis Harnack, CBS Career Service & Alumni Manager, and Juliane Harnoth, CBS Career Service Manager, around 50 students and employees came to the cafeteria lounge.

The focus of the evening was on the founding stories of the respective entrepreneurs. Idea and business background, concrete implementation, financial planning, future prospects and the special challenge of each start-up were discussed in detail by the five guest speakers.

Olaf Nieder, CBS alumnus and owner of “La Barra”, a restaurant for cava and tapas on Cologne’s Barbarossaplatz and for the online shop “Cava-Contor”, was responsible for the catering of the cavas. He presented the founding history of “La Barra”, which was opened as the German branch of the cult bar “Can Paixano” in Barcelona.

The Cologne bag and rucksack label “Wind & Vibes” was presented by the managing directors Sebastian Büttenbender and Sebastian Hess, both bachelor graduates in “International Business”. Five years after completing their studies and holding various positions in consulting and sales management, the former fellow students decided to build up their bag brand with the characteristic interchangeable caps.

From the job market app “Jobfox”, managing director Rafael Gomez gave the audience an insight into how he became a founder during his master’s degree in “International Business – Management Consulting”. Tim Klauke, manager of the forklift fleet “Fork on”, was the only external cooperation partner of the CBS to complete the presentation round.

All entrepreneurs made it clear that setting up a business is also associated with difficulties and thus, founders should have a lot of motivation and perseverance. A lively exchange developed between the guest speakers and the audience, in which students’ business ideas were also discussed. A CBS student also secured an interview for an internship at Wind & Vibes.

As the next founding event, the student initiative “Founders Factory” and the Career Service invite to the “Start-up Day” on April 11th, 2019 on campus.
