Career changers moving ahead

Economic interrelationships and knowledge of the tasks and processes in companies are conveyed in a basic business degree course. But even outside the classic “business professions”, graduates of the natural sciences or humanities often need knowledge of business administration and management in order to develop themselves and advance further in their jobs. At the CBS International Business School, you will have the opportunity to enter a master’s programme in business studies despite the fact that your first degree is in a non-business subject.

One programme – many possibilities

Depending on the level of your previous specialist knowledge, an individual assessment will be carried out to determine whether you need to acquire basic business administration knowledge for one or two semesters before starting the master’s programme. Depending on the target language for the master`s programme, the course content can be completed in German or English. Besides a complete pre-semester, there is also the possibility to make up for missing ECTS credits in an intensive course during the summer months. After successful completion of the specified preliminary courses, it is possible to enter all master’s degree programmes offered at CBS.

Individual testing and support

The decision on how many ECTS need to be made up for is made after examination of your individual documents. Therefore, please submit your complete study documents (transcript of records, module handbook, certificate – if available) and your curriculum vitae via the application form. If you have any further questions, please contact our student advisory team at the respective campus.

Your options as a career changer:

Option 1:

Entry into an English-language master’s programme without business knowledge: usually two semesters from the English-language bachelor’s programme; start: winter semester (September)

Option 2:

Entrance to German-language master’s programmes without business knowledge: usually one semester from the German-language bachelor’s programme (start: summer semester (February)

Option 3:

Entry into the English or German-language master’s programme with already existing basic knowledge in the field of economics: Pre-semester as an intensive summer course (Campus Cologne: English/ June-July; Campus Mainz: German/ May-August)
